Scot Landry and Fr. Chris O’Connor welcomed Ruth Raichle, who recently completed 35 years in prison ministry, and Gary Stewart, who was incarcerated for 22 years and was the beneficiary of Bethany House ministry. Ruth and Gary describe the breadth of the ministry, including participating in the effort for the beatification of Fr. Jean Joseph Lataste, OP; the work of Bethany House which provides support to prisoners, ex-prisoners, and their families by operating a thrift store, giving them jobs, and managing volunteer ministry programs in men’s and women’s prisons.

Miracle Approved for Fr. Lataste Beatification

On June 27, 2011, our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI approved a miracle for the Servant of God Jean-Joseph Lataste, O.P. (1832-1869), a French Dominican who founded the Dominican Sisters of Bethany and is the inspiration for Bethany House Ministries. Fr. Lataste was Beatified in Besancon, France on Sunday, June 3, 2012.

Norfolk Inmates Seek Christ in Lay Dominican Chapter

2/9/2007 By Christine Williams

They wake each morning to pray the Liturgy of the Hours and chant it again before they go to sleep. They pray the rosary, spend time in contemplative prayer and gather each Sunday to discuss the Gospel. In almost every way they are like the members of other chapters of the Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic, except they are incarcerated.
